What made me consider a career in counselling?
I have always been interested in psychology, but more than that, I experienced a traumatic incident in my early 20’s when I was at university. I was a victim of a crime that resulted in me being hospitalised and suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It took many years before I received the specialist help I so desperately needed. As I found out during my recovery, there are many professionals that say they have worked with trauma, but they are not trauma specialists. I believe no-one needs to suffer for long with the right help. My aim is to create a tailor-made support package for individuals or groups so they can recover from their symptoms as quickly as possible, whatever their struggle may be.
I would describe myself as an integrative therapist who uses various techniques to create the best care for your specific needs. Some of the approaches I use include: Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) & CBT Trauma, EMDR, Solution-Focused, Motivational Interviewing, ENLP, Critical Incident Models and Mediation.
I have worked in the public, private and charity sector, including globally with humanitarian aid workers, the NHS, Metropolitan & City Police, and the transport industry, as well as within the specialist area of sexual health and relationship counselling. My experience extends way beyond the boundaries of corporate life as I have also run my own counselling business for over 10 years. I have therefore gained vast experience of working with many client issues. I am an Affiliated Counsellor with several Employment Assistant Programmes, including Validium, Oasis, and Retail Trust. I enjoy facilitating workshops in the field of stress management, trauma support and life development.
